Ooooooooooooooh Mah Gawd.......
What are we actually talking about here?
Subtle messages in movies being forbidden - I really don't think this is the case. A movie is what it is, and how you interpret it and use the given facts is very much up to you. Likewise, the way you use the facts to explain Timon's banishment is very much up to you as well. There is no backstory available - we can hypothesise until we die, so again, just take it with a pinch of salt. All movies and books are full of subtle messages. It depends on whether you can pick up on it or not.
About bisexuality and children. If you see a programme with kids living with different-gender parents, that is ok. Similarly, a man and a woman walking down the street holding hands is ok. Why not the same with same-gender? Where is the difference? How on earth does that lead to a rating change?? In fact, US movies tend to bias ratings against sexuality and nudity rather than horrible gore and violence. Can anyone see a rationale behind this? Creating a nation of killer homophobes maybe?
And on-topic, finally. So what if T&P are gay? What is this labelling anyway? What if Timon cheated on his wife and was exiled? Like I said, we can go on hypothesising, it really doesn't make any difference. The movie is ambiguous, and, taken separately from any other evidence, such as Earnie and Nathan saying that they made the characters gay, there is no reason for children to understand any basis other than friendship for Timon and Pumbaa. And if they do - then there is no problem anyway! Statistically, bisexuality occurs at a rate of 1/15 in any heterosexual animal population. There is NO explicit sexual content. Those people arguing for a ratings change should censor that CYFTLT scene - a pair of raunchy lions - what were the producers thinking?!
....
Do you know that the genie in Aladdin can be hypothesised to be gay? Because blue means gay in Russian, and because of the one-liners he throws at Al? I really don't understand what all the fuss and protest is about ... ergh...
Chill already.
